Acid Mothers Temple & the melting parais - Recurring Dream And Apocalypse Of Darkness [Important Records - 2008]Recurring Dream And Apocalypse Of Darkness is a very apt title for what is The Acid mother Temples most dark, nasty and doom soddened release to date. Packed with crawling doomed metallic juggernaut like riffs and hypnotic metallic psychedelics- this is the blackest and heaviest trip they’ve every made. Seriously this is some heavy shit, man ;-) The album is split into two long tracks/ jams of 36 minutes a piece with the heavy, doomy and noisy guitar works of Kawabata Makoto taking centre stage & as usual the mix of; spacey synth, effects, flute, Hurdy Gurdy, bass and drums career, bob melt and surf around the guitar tones to give a psychedelic/ metallic stew of sound . There also the odd traces of what could be vocals/ rants here and there but nothings really defined. Both tracks are best described as free fall jams that stop with one riff and start up with another one fairly soon after some synth whoosh and/ or sound effects. It really follows what you'd expect from AMT when their in free-fall freak out jamming mode, as there’s little change in pace or variation going on in either of these tracks. I guess out of the two tracks the second and title track is most appealing as it seems a bit more dynamic and it drops down into a rather nice feed back and blacked drone synth and guitar rut for the last ten minutes or so that will leave your ears nicely ringing after it’s done A good if not great Acid Mother Temple release that shows the band adding new tricks to their sonic arsenal most notable the doom elements. It will certainly be interesting to see what they do with the doom elements on future releasers. Roger Batty
