Small Doses is a label which released this small dose indeed. A cute 3" cdr by the American electronic musician Nicholas Szczepanik (I'm starting to be able to type his last name without having to check on it). The music found on A Stillness Rarely Seen is almost as descriptive, as the piece is indeed of a stillness that is rarely seen. But enough with the wordplay, the music is pretty. Calm clouds of sound pass by, hush ambience, tiny bits of dreamy piano and all presented in a gentle pace, pensive and somewhat dreamy. Where the other music I heard by Nicholas, the cdr release Astilbe Rubra, featured more disturbing atmospheres, here the mood is consistently friendly.A Stillness Rarely Seen makes for a pleasant twenty minutes, the soundtrack to a relaxing stay in a quiet park or something similar with a bit of a setting sun and perhaps a glass of wine. On a sidenote I can welcome the creator of this nice piece of music as writer for our little webzine, hopefully not rarely seen.
