Kyle Bobby Dunn - Fragments & Compositions Of Kyle Bobby Dunn [Sedimental - 2008]Fragments & Compositions brings together six breathtaking, exquisite and often melancholy tinged tracks of drone craft and minimalism that utilize classical strings, piano, subtle electroincs & field recordings. The opening track Miranda Rights is certainly a highlight here- it’s simply put pure audio gold that’s tinged with sadness and longing. For the track Dunn utilizes a graceful yet weary and contemplative violin element, which he wonderful warps around and through its self. Making a track that comes off like Stars of the lid’s string work meets the emotional and broken air of Vincent Gallo’s soundtrack work. Other highlights include;Tout Voyuers which utilizes a distant, reverb lonesome and beautiful piano march to which Dunn places on scratchy voice samples and aged tape textures. It feels like stepping back into a memory of a Relationship past, Dunn producing a captivating yet sad air. Or the exit track Sedentary II with it’s harmonic yet weary and sentimental piano wonderings, that bring to mind a deserted bar in the early hours of the mourning; the barman put chairs on the tables, sliping his coat on, lighting a smoke, locking up and going out into autumnal first light. Dunn really has an amazing ability to put so much emotional weight and depth, heartache and life weariness into his often seeminly simply and delicate works. Fragments & Compositions is simply put a wonderful collection of emotional snapshots put into sonic form, and I heartily recommend it to anyone who savours beautiful and emotionally touched music - what ever it’s form.
