Svarte Greiner - Kappe [Type Records - 2009]Kappe is the second full length release by Norse electronic meets acoustic doom project Svarte Greiner and like the first album it’s another lightless and unforgiving journey in bleak atmospherics. Each of Kappe's four lengthy tracks unfold into the listeners space in an languishing and creepy manner, and slowly but surely tints the listener psyche in dread and grimness. The tracks main focus is bleak and barren seesawing guitar scape and drifts that either bring to mind the vibe of the original Texas chainsaw massacre soundtrack or a barren ambience meets art guitar shimmer ‘n’ fold. Added to the guitar's slow and grim voyagers are wisps of hope sucking drone matter, eerier glass tinkling percussion and clunking chain rattle along with the odd touches of wayward, glighty bound and murky electronics. All told you certainly have to admire the grim, dark and suffocating air that pervades though all of Kappe's running time. Though I rather felt it often lacked memorable/ distinctive drones or bleak melodies which would make me want to return to this again after the first few plays. Roger Batty
