C Spencer Yeh , Paul Flaherty & Greg Kel - New York Nuts & Boston Baked Beans [Important Records - 2009]

New York Nuts & Boston Baked Beans brings together C Spencer Yeh’s(Burning Star Core & numerous of other projects )Violin sawing, noisy improv and weird vocalising. And Paul Flaherty Tenor and Alto sax work-outs that flirt between  been noisily honking and violent, and harmonic and raggedly smoky. With the pair been joined by the searing trumpet burns of improviser Greg Kelley on the last two tracks.

The release features 6 lengthy tracks of rewarding improv, free jazz and noise, with each track hitting around the ten minute mark & each wonderfully see-sew from been noisy, playful and at times harmonic and battered atmospheric. The tracks  unfold thus; Spencer Yeh manically saw’s and slashes his violin, or jibbers and jabbers in strange tongues or mumbles and gurgles bizarre vocal sounds. As Paul  Flaherty sax playing shifts from honks, to bellows , to harmonic & playful blows. And on the last few tracks Kelley’s trumpet wails and bellows making things even more dense and shifting; but it never losers it’s sonic sense. The tracks are kept active, edgy and dense through-out with trio keeping the perfectly balance between been noisy and creative, and listenable and harmonic.

A very active and rewarding near on hour of creative improv and noise making that’s ribbed with harmonic and playful facets.
