Harshcore & Der Einzige - The Bujùn Freak Show [Moriremo Tutti Records - 2009]The Bujùn Freak Show is a two way split between two acts that mix: quirky beats, noise, Plunderphonics elements, the odd hints of industrialized matter and atmospheric guitar scaping. All in all it’s an fairly enjoyable and creative split packaging in a eye catching 7 inch card sleeve with retro pictures on First off we have the four tracks from Harshcore that open up with Stunend Tuna, which starts out with stabbing beats, weird echoed vocal and sinister organ dwell. Before it steps up a gear more fierce chopping industrial noise beat cuts. Another worthy mention is Do it Dodo with it’s muffled lo-fi beat roll and stuck vocal sample that later adds on a shimmering electro music box synth simmer 'n’ drone. Really all of the Harshcore tracks are fairly enjoyable with some creative sonic ideas at play. And so on to the four Der Einzige tracks; sadly these seem a little less structured, often a little hazy and ill defined in their make- with all of the four tracks rather meld into one other. We go from bright atmospheric guitar shimmers over crunching beats and sonic flotsam and jetsam, to jazz beats careering with cut-up dialogue, pludderphonics elements, guitar fuzzes and random electro sound bubbles. It’s all interesting in a ramshackle way, but at times it feels a little too lose and unfocused for its own good. All in all some fine and creative ideas on offer from both acts here with the Harshcore tracks seeming a little more focused and consistent than the Der Einzige tracks- but on the whole it’s an rewarding enough split.
