Female Harakiri - Chainsaw Majini [Hoarse Records - 2010]

‘Chainsaw Majini’ is my first taster of this Japanese HNW act & this 3” cdr is one  hell of a brutal, unforgiving & brain grinding attack; like the sonic equivalent of being attacked by a chainsaw that's fully revered up & ready to split flesh ‘n’ bone.

The 3” takes it influence from the horror survival video game Resident Evil 4 & in particular the masked eastern European Madmen that attack you with Chainsaws in the game, & lop off you head or limbs  if their given half a chance. The single seventeen minute track on offer here nicely replicates one such attack very nicely; straight from the start of the track Female Harakiri grinds in with a thick, roaring & ripping wall of noise & never lets up with it’s sonic ripping & bombardment  until nearly twenty minutes later.

But the 'wall' is far from unmoving or static in it’s attack; there’s a main roaring thick tone which is constant, but this is under stormed by all manner of forking, grinding & searing feed back tonalities that you just keep getting hints of before there ripped away & replaced by another tone. There are also hints of what might once have being harmonic or melodic structure here too in the turning maelstrom of sound, through I can’t fully define there shape or tone- maybe the games music is sampled somehow in the brutal sound mayhem.

So this a very searing, thick & churning shot of ‘wall’ making & I really like the way there’s some much going & shifting with-in the wall of sound which at times reminds me of some of The Rita’s early albums like  'Bodies Bear Traces Of Carnal Violence' & 'Total Slitting Of Throats'. So if you dig thick, subtle detailed & swirling brutal walls of noise this is a must have item!.
