Foul - The Mark Inside [Bane Records - 2010]

‘The Mark Inside” is the first full length release from J.Cadle’s  new HNW project Foul- in the past Cadle went under the name of White Torture & is still in ...Massacre(with Sam Stoxen of Baculum & runner of Phage Tapes) & Oasis Of Fear(with Richard Ramirez). This is also the opening release on Mr Cadle's new label Bane records.

On offer here is one hour long track of dense, slowly shifting & darkly curdled ‘wall’ making. The track is built around several shifting & interlocking tones; there’s a fairly constant amped-up distant sea shore drone, a few layers of knitting & sometimes quite aggravated static curls, jagged & face lashing static down pours, and later more rapid & tensely bound loops of grey storm roar 'n' jitter.  The track keeps thick, punishing & unbroken in its wall type structure through-out as Cadle aptly shifts the layers of tone & noise grit over & between each other. This is more of a slow boiling & consistent storm battering take on wall making, though the pace of the tracks tones are fairly rapid through-out. The CDR comes in a basic, but effective enough wrap around paper sleeve which has on the cover a picture of dabbed red, black & orange shapes & textures which looks like the work of a disturbed child & it fits the albums dense yet darkly disturbed sonic world well . On the back flap there’s the albums info in black text- as I said it's a simply but effective package

It’s certainly not a HNW release that sits up and grabs you straight away with an instantly appealing ‘wall’- this is a more thoughtful, planed-out & slowly ‘warming on you’ take on the genre. But give it time & patient and you’ll be rewarded by the slowly shifting, detailed & black stormed & doomed ‘wall’ of sound. To find out more & buy direct pop along here
