Static Mantra - Om Shri Mahakala Hung Phet [Toxic Industries - 2010] | Static Mantra are a Czech Republic based Harsh Noise wall project whose focus/ obsession is Hinduism & Buddhism. “Om Shri Mahakala Hung Phet” offers-up a single hour long brutal mantra in locked wall-making. The track/album takes it’s name from a short mantra to the dark Buddhist god Mahakala, or four faced Mahakala (he appears in 75 different forms)as he’s pictured on the front cover of the CDR. The ‘wall’ on offer here is of the fairly rapid paced variety and it’s built around an electro throbbing & droning judder, that’s joined by a tight/looped jittering static tone. Through-out the hour long track the structure of the ‘wall’ remains fairly unmoving and set, though at times the elements do seem to shift very slightly their patterns and speeds; but this is probably ones imagination, because if you randomly drop down anywhere in the track it seems all very uniformed. On the whole it’s an ok ‘wall’ ,and at times it gets quite hypnotic, but your attention offen wanes & it’s just it lacks that special/ almost magical appealing edge. This means at its hour length this starts to get tiresome, and one starts to glance at the time left on the track which is never a good sign. Static Mantra certainly have a interesting and original obsession behind their ‘wall-making’- it’s just a pity that “Om Shri Mahakala Hung Phet” doesn’t really stand up to the projects concept, and your left with a rather medico slice of HNW.
