Ataraxy - Duality Of The Bizarre’ [Vomit Bucket Productions - 2010]Ataraxy is a German based one man Hash noise project whose releases move between harsh Noise wall, Harsh noise, and a mixture of the two. ‘Duality Of The Bizarre’ is the projects ninth release and it finds Ataraxy offering up five 15 minute tracks that mixe together brooding & throbbing punk bass drones with jittering, juddering and violently purring HNW textures. The first three tracks are rather interchangeable and samey offering up a very monotonous and grating(in a bad way) mixture of juddering, violent jittering and vibrating noise textures, which are run along side rather bland and unchanging bass punk bass drones. The last two tracks seem a little more aggravated with the noise texture and the punk bass drones been mixed together in a more brutally appealing manner instead of just running along side each other, as with the first three tracks. Though these last two tracks are certainly more rewarding than the first three, sadly they do over stay there welcome at the 15 minute mark & they don’t really seem to entrance or pull you in like any decent wall should do. I certainly like the idea of HNW textures and punk bass drones, and in the past it’s work very well with others in participle Scottish based A View From Nihil. But sadly for most of it’s running time ‘Duality Of The Bizarre’ is rather dull, borring and just plan bland-when it should be edgy, caustic and taut. Roger Batty
