Total Fucking Destruction / Skat Injecto - split 7” Vinyl [Hirntrust Grind Media, Binjuice Erotica, Legs Akim - 2011] | A triple whammy of labels team up to deliver this delightful little 7” from Philadelphia’s finest, Total Fucking Destruction and on the flipside London’s digi-grind mentalists, Skat Injector. Total Fucking Destruction were formed by Brutal Truth’s former stickman Rich Hoak and since their inception in 1999 have shared releases with such grind luminaries as Agoraphobic Nosebleed, Machetazo and Cripple Bastards to name but a few, really striking a chord with their particularly bizarre blend of spastic grindcore and crust punk. This 7” presents four live tracks from TFD, for those unlucky enough not to have heard their material before, their sound would be best summed up by mixing the strange, twisted style reminiscent of John Zorn’s Painkiller with a dash of Discharge combined with the straight up grind assaults of Nasum. A bit of anomaly in the vocal department as well, as far as grindcore is concerned, more overly punk rather than the usual combo of high pitched screams and cookie monster vox. The A side totals up at just over four minutes in length, the standout track being the brilliantly titled ‘Monster Earth Megawar’, sounding like some sci-fi punk opera from the outer limits with the urgent vocals summoning visions of impending cosmic doom, great stuff.
Joining them on this outing is Skat Injector, who has been floating around in the scum of the UK underground for a good number of years now. Occupying some strange space between grindcore, speedcore and noise, the act was founded by the ‘misanthropic masked transvestite’ Zara Skumshot with the rest of the band made up by ‘Flange Magnus’ and ‘Penny Dreadful’. This release marks Skat Injector’s fourth 7” appearance, showcasing their own particularly filth ridden and hallucinatory digi-grind. Never taking themselves too seriously, the two tracks on here mix almost comic book sounding synths with Zara’s venomous gargled vocals and grinding blastbeats, with surprisingly ‘catchy’ (I use the term loosely) breakdowns and general all round madness. An excellent little release worth tracking down for fans of the more avant-garde end of the grindcore spectrum, coming July 2011, limited to 300 copies Todd Robinson
