Tromba - Ciclón [Self Release - 2011]"Ciclón" is the second full length release from this weather & storm influenced Puerto Rico based HNW project. On offer here is a single just over half an hour track of slowly shifting ambient HNW. Ciclón is the Spanish word for Cyclone and that’s exactly what this 30.55 track feels like the slow textural twisting & turning inside the eye of of the storm. The track ebbs, batters and buffets though all manner of slowly swirling wind storm based textures- we have two tone gale like judders, moving onto hissing rain like banks of tone, through to creaking ‘n’ jittering storm blind battering, onto slow motion and melting away wind judders. Tromba certainly makes you feel like you been for a trip with-in the cyclones heart, as it moves from the sea to inland before slowly dispersing.....though there is bite in the tracks tail The packaging & CDR design is quite unusually with it’s mixture of quite slick and modernistic grey type-face text on the cover, and the splattered berry surface of the CDR it’s self. Not quite sure how the berry splatters relate to the album concept and cyclones, but it does make for something a bit different. Tromba is one of the key figures/ names behind the recent and rising ambient HNW scene, and "Ciclón" a great & highly enjoyable example of this scene. I can see this appealing to of course HNW fans, but I can also see this of been interested to those who enjoy both weather bound sound art and thick elemental based ambience. Roger Batty
