Roro Perrot - Exécution Des Hautes Oeuvres [Premier Sang - 2011]“Exécution Des Hautes Oeuvres” is the bent, deranged and unwell second sonic fruits from the Roro Perrot project. The project is the side project of Romain ‘Roro’ Perrot who is better known to the world at large as Vomir- the unstoppable, extreme and black bag wearing French HNW project. This new release sees Perrot strip-down the extreme noise bound improv sound of the projects debut “Scum Impro Core “ in favour of hardcore like miniature sonic attacks that are built purely around speedy/cack-handed acoustic guitar strumming & deranged wails & ranting that sound like they could have come from a cross & drunk disabled Frenchman. The album comes in cd format in a grey slipcase which features just vague dobs & scribbles, and no info about whose behind the project, when it was recorded, or what it’s all meant to mean. The album features 68 tracks in all, and most of theses last between five to twenty seconds a piece. I guess it best to describe all of the tracks here as acoustic hardcore played by some who has very rudimentary guitar playing skills, and on top of these wonky acoustic spazz-outs Perrot wails, moans & rants in a fairly repetitive manner. From time to time you can make out rudimentary stabs at blues, folk or rock like structures in the guitar attacks- but really there just jagged, deranged & battering attacks on the guitar. On a few tracks a child can be heard wailing & screaming along with Perrot, and this adds quite a surreal & unsettling edge to the proceedings. I’ll have to admit that I felt rather underwhelmed & disappointed with this release when I first heard it, as it just seemed to be a bit repetitive & one dimensional for it’s own good, and when any more musical or creative elements popped-up in the albums length they were snub very quickly. But after living with the album now for five or six months I must say I rather enjoy it’s basic, deranged and uncomplicated sprit……it really is what it seems an hardcore album gone acoustic with Perrot wailing & ranting over the top in some primal tongue. This is certainly not for everyone, and even Vomir fans need to approach with caution, as this is a very different kettle of fish from Perrot’s walled noise exploits, but then again maybe it’s not when you get down to it…as both projects are about submersion then release…it’s just Perrot is using different sonic tools for each project.
