Traitors - Remember [Muzikaal Kabaal - 2012]“Remember” presents the listener with just under fifty minutes worth of grim ‘n’ pummelling walled noise from this relatively new Dutch project. The last thing I heard from this project was the self released “Recluse” CDR from early on this year, which was some what of a mixed & rather un-consistent release. So I’ve been a little wary about getting around to reviewing this CDR release on the mostly excellent Dutch based Muzikaal Kabaal label The release conists of a single and self-titled 47.07 track. The ‘wall’ is built around a fixed muffled low end billowing drone, running over this is quite crusty ‘n’ grimy static jittering. The two elements create this engulfing ‘n’ bleak walled structure, which to my mind seems to summon up memories of melancholic late night walks through deserted city scapes & flickering neon lit under passes. It’s miles better than anything on the “Recluse” release, and it shows the project offering up a fairly distinctive ‘wall’. It’s always nice to be surprised by a release when you weren’t expecting much from, and that’s what “Remember” has done for me. Sure it’s not a classic or masterpiece by any means, but it’s a consistent enough slab of bleak ‘n’ battering HNW. Roger Batty
