Sissy Spacek - Wastrel Projection [Hand Made Birds - 2012]“Wastrel Projection” is the latest attack on the sonic sensers from USA grindcore/ noisecore/caustic improv collective Sissy Spacek. This full length CD features a total run-time of just five minutes, and offers up 32 two tracks of rapid yet controlled mayhem. For this release the project features: John Wiese on bass & tapes, Charlie Mumma on Drums & Vocals, Jesse Jackson on guitar, and Corydon Ronnau on vocals. The track lengths run between five & twenty five seconds a piece, and each track is a battering ‘n’ brain bleeding bolt of noisecore/grindcore that has bludgeoning improv snorts & honks worked into it. The tracks mix together: rapid vocal rages ‘n’ rants, sudden blast beats that batter than exit, manically clamouring guitar & bass attacks, and often brutal yet psychedelic tinged noise elements that searing & rip at your brain. “Wastrel Projection” is as effective, and overloaded as anything this project has put out thus far, and it’s a great ‘n’ quick head cleaner/ stress reliever. Sure it’s all over fairly quickly, but SS pack in a hell of a lot of bang for you buck in such a short-time. And of course you could just put this on endless loop, until your brain/ hearing is well & truly battered & bruised. Roger Batty
