Truchsess - Entreaty [Muzikaal Kabaal - 2012]“Entreaty” is the first full length release from this Canadian based HNW project who summon up a very thick & encasing tonal based take on walled noise. This release comes in the form of a CDR that features three untitled twenty minute 'walls'. This project & release are themed around knights & honour in battle- as the projects logo features a knight like figure holding a sword which forms the T of Truchsess, and the cover features a old print of knights lined up preying with their lancers or spears. The first track is built around two fairly similar buzzing ‘n’ juddering mid-range static cable drones. These drones are trailed out together in a fairly unchanging manner, save from the occasional extra buzz or judder, to create this head-drilling & tonal entrancing sustain. It feels like you’ve putting you head between two vast & vibrating electrical generators, yet it’s somehow brutal soothing & appealing in it’s feel. The second track is built around: a rumbling ‘n’ boring low end-tone, a mid-to-high ranged jittering tone, and a muffled/ fuzzed juddering sub-tone. To start with these tones are fed out in a fairly unchanged manner, but over time the tones seem to start to slightly blur into each other with the higher jittering elements of the ‘wall’ become less & less obvious. Once again the track is most appealing and moorish, with a nice mixture of bone juddering low-end action & semi urgent that entrancing mid-to-higher ranged jittering. Lastly track three is built around this slightly roaming ‘n’ muffled radio like static purr, and a more juddering ‘n’ jittering mid ranged tone. The track has a more predominately urgent & less meaty feel compared with the other two tracks, yet the roaming & muffled elements add a feel of slightly wavering structure to the ‘wall’. Once again the tones seem to blur & melt together slightly over the tracks length, yet this time the tones still (just) keep there original textural traits. This release offers up three very rewarding slices of walled noise that manger to have their own sonic identity & distinctive tonal based feel. “Entreaty” is most certainly one of this years HNW highlights.
