Ballerina in Blood/Vasectomy Party - Split [Forever Escaping Boredom Records - 2012]This 3inch CDR brings together two cult movie themed slices of harsh noise & walled noise. We have New Rochelle, New York based Ballerina in Blood offering their sonic tribute to The Wickerman, and Florida's Vasectomy Party offering their sonic tribute to the first Lethal Weapon movie. The 3inc CDR comes with double side colour & black ‘n’ white artwork which takes in both poster artwork & film stills from both movies, and this adds a nice pro edge to the proceeds. First up we have a track from Ballerina in Blood aka Dominick Colucci whose behind various other harsh noise/ HNW projects such as Willows, Faggot Front ect. The track on offer here is entitled “A Midday Sun At Midnight”, and it’s just under ten minutes of roasting ‘n’ searing harsh noise. Colucci builds here a track that alternates between masses of violent juddering & ripping lo-end noise. Clamouring, cluttering & grating mid ranged to higher end noise. Bashing ‘n’ reverberating metal junk abuse, and jittering/ juddering lines of crackle. At times it does sound a little ‘wallish’, but these moments are fairly fleeting as he's seemingly always violently twisting the tracks make-up. All in all an it’s enjoyable/ consistent bit of harsh noise. Next we have a track from Vasectomy Party aka Hal Harmon who has a few other harsh noise/ HNW projects such as The Man With The Icy Eyes & Manglor Mtn, he also runs the great Forever Escaping Boredom Records that put this release out. His track is entitled “This Is Our Waterloo”, and the 9.42 track offers up a slice of active walled noise. The track starts off with a minute or so sample from the movie with some tough talking from one of the cops, then we thrown into the ‘wall’. It’s built around a rapid ‘n’ raw bed roaring & slightly cluttering low end noise that races into you ears like sonic fire. Ever so often Harmon adds in a sudden grating pull back, or another layer of rapidly cluttering crisp-ness, a sudden noise folk, or a noise-up snthy tone stretch. Though there are a fair few shifts on the tracks surface pretty much all of the time the main tone is kept in place. Again this is another effective track, I guess you'd say it sits on the cusp of active HNW & wallish harsh noise. All told this is a nicely presented split with both parties offering up rewarding & re-playable pieces of noise craft. And if you enjoy the place between harsh noise & HNW this is worth picking-up.
