Fukte - Nitropentadecene [Claustrophilia - 2012]From late 2012, this 3inc CDR offers up a rewarding slice of aggravated walled noise from the Italian harsh noise/HNW project Fukte. This release came in a edition of 15 copies, and it was released by Italian HNW label Claustrophilia, which is run by Lorenzo Abbà( Nascitari, Tomorrow I’ll Shoot My Self In The Mouth) The CDR comes in a small paper slip sleeve that features drawings of various insects and chemical equations. And theme wise the release is apparently based around a highly toxic unsaturated nitroalkene, the only aliphatic nitro compound known to be synthesized by insects. For those not involved with chemistry, apparently a nitroalkene, or nitro olefin, is a functional group combining the functionality of its constituent parts, an alkene and nitro group, while displaying its own chemical properties through alkene activation(!?...no, I’m none the wiser either, but it’s certainly an original & distinctive theme). Anyway moving away from the packaging/ theme, and onto the noise featured on the 3inc disc- and it’s a single track that comes in at the 20.02 mark. The ‘walls’ built around a taut ‘n’ tense mixture of the following noise tones: a roaming yet constricted mid-ranged rumbling ‘n’ juddering texture, a rapid electro spluttering ‘n’ jittering tone that has quite a smarting feel to it, and (slightly latter on) an on/ off sustained electro cluttering ‘n’ searing tone. These textures are weaved together into a very airless & manic matt of sound which nicely sears & bays at your ears. As already mentioned a electro cluttering element becomes more prevalent the further the track progresses, but other wise the other elements stay fairly fixed & taut ,though seemingly intensifying, in their feeling. Fukte is not one of the most prolific HNW projects, putting out maybe one or two releases a year( and sometime less), but when it does put something out you pretty much always guaranteed of well thought out & conceived noise making, and that exactly what “Nitropentadecene” is. All told this release is a compelling piece of taut wall-making, with a original & unequal theme. Roger Batty
