Black Sand Desert - Choking on Grave soil [Troniks - 2006]Choking on Grave soil is Black Sand Desert (Detroit’s Greh Holger) first full cd release, though he has released a few cdrs and some vinyl before. The cd offers up two tie you’re self to ground, stand-storm ear- burning trips into audio torture. Each tracks runs in the region of quarter of an hour, each as brutal and unforgiving, as each other. Track one opens up with lashing rhythmic steel oil drum sound, with burning static bellow, before long the drum sound explodes into even denser walls of static, which seem to press in on your head. The noise seems very hot and almost suffocating. As the track goes on he rolls in other tones of noise, but always keeping the static wall almost constant. The rhythmic drum sound appears from the start again, in a more closed in form, before it erupts once more. Track two follows a similar pattern with wiping around you ears burn audio sound grains. At about the four minute mark a rather nice oppressive head boring drone drops in, as swirls of dancing pitches join it,almost forming a sad melodies but never fully getting there. A satisfying enough release, though I sometimes wish he had stayed with some elements a bit longer and developed them more. Never the less worth a look if you fancy going into the eye of the storm , so to speak. To buy direct go here Roger Batty
