Go to the Merzbow website  Merzbow - Live In Geneva [Walnut + Locust - 2006]

Live In Geneva Finds Merzbow working in a longer form than usual, with the near on hour long track taking up all of the runtime here. Building from sinister beginnings to a crash nerve- jangling walls of noise. With-in the hours playing time, he takes us lots of places texturally, so boredom never sets in.

It all starts of with looped sinister drone, and frog like croaking  rhythmic  pulse, then more sounds are layered on - like the sound similar to a spray can been shaken , which seasoned listener will recognized from first appearing on  Senmaida, from last year. It’s like watching a picture been painted before your eyes or a moving closer to a object, more textured and sonic detail are painted in, still at it’s base the sinister drone is there, but it becomes more difficult to make out, as fields of static churn and ripple above. Then at the 15 minute mark it all the denseness drops out, the static goes to the background, as Merzbow paints in strange alien bird sounds, which he feeds circle pulse heart beats over. Slowly it builds up once more layering all sorts of sounds in, birds and other wise; I can make out what sounds like the modified sound of a wood pigeons and chicken chattering deep in the back of the track. At the 32 minute mark he slips into  eerier static fog of sound. Rolls of wind whistling and circuitry chatter- curling out of it, seething around your feet in an almost playful manner. Then the sound starts to build up once more.

A very enjoyable hours playing time, which shows lots of variant in sound and textured. Utilizing sounds that I’m sure long time listener will recognize.  But As wilth all his live performance, it’s about re- painting familiar elements in different contexts and soundscapes.

One really more  for the seasoned Merzbow listener really, so you can pick out all the audio  references points, though that’s not to say that first time listener wouldn’t enjoy it   too, as it never gets too harsh. The recording quality is A1; really you would'nt  know it was a live recording. To buy direct go here, but be quick its ltd to 500.
